Two courses for a total of 9 hours of learning are offered to aid your use of the MID in clinical practice. Please read the descriptions below, and follow the linked course titles to more in-depth course information. When in doubt, we recommend that the courses be taken in the order listed.
The below on-demand courses were recorded during live webinars in late 2022 and early 2023, reflecting updates in the MID materials associated with MID Analysis v6.0 and the MID Interpretive Manual, 4th Edition.
1 (of 2): Introduction to Dissociation and the MID – Definitions and Foundations for Assessment
This on-demand webinar was recorded in December 2022
If you are relatively new to understanding and assessing dissociative symptoms, and/or new to the MID, this workshop is for you! After years of teaching and consulting with practitioners on the use of the MID, we learned that a certain foundation of terms, concepts, and literature makes a big difference when one is new to the MID. This course will guide you to fill in any gaps in your foundational knowledge, including a review of the history of defining and diagnosing dissociative disorders alongside an overview the major scientific and theoretical models of how and why dissociation happens. You will hear about several ways in which dissociative disorders are assessed, and how these compare to the MID. Then, youāll learn how to administer and score the MID!
Interpretation of the MID results often requires further study and trainingā¦ This 3-hour webinar is a recommended prerequisite to the second course, Integrating the MID into Clinical Practice (below).

2 (of 2): IntegratingĀ the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation intoĀ Clinical Practice
This on-demand webinar was recorded in January 2023
If you have already taken the 3-hour introductory webinar (either live or on-demand), or are already well-versed in dissociation and the dissociative disorders, and want to learn the ins-and-outs of using the MID, then this on-demand course is for you!
As the companion toĀ Introduction to Dissociation and the MID, thisĀ 6-hour webinar will briefly review administration and scoring of the MID, then will dive into exploring just about everything relating to the MID that we could fit into a 6-hour training! Ā Youāll learn about:
- when proceeding straight on to diagnostic assessment rather than simple screening may be indicated;
- how to administer, score, read, and interpret the results of the MID ā with case examples;
- information about conducting a follow-up interview to confirm the results;
- differential diagnosis issuesĀ with the MID, both simpler and more complex; and
- applications of the MID beyond diagnosis.
